"Classical figure studies form the foundation of all oil painting. As a student I worked from plaster casts, then from the live model. This training forms more than an artist’s sense of proportion and scale. It develops sensitivity to light and dark and to the subtle effects of color playing over the surface of the skin. The skin displays minute changes that reveal the blood surging beneath and the life that beats through our cells. I want to reveal that life in every stroke."
