“Halo is one of my most exotic images to date, inspired by Asian dance and the luxury of Asian arts. I wanted to paint an image filled with life and vitality, placed in a contemporary composition, tightly cropped make the identity of the woman mysterious, and to focus on the opulence of her jewelry. The halo in the background is derived from a carved and gilded halo belonging to a sculpture of a Japanese Amitabha Buddha, and represents flames and clouds. The jewelry comes from my own collection of pieces found in Asia, Africa, Europe and North America over the years. The model is wearing a raw silk brocade from India.”
